Why You Need a Portable Massage Chair

It’s not cheap to become a massage therapist, and good massage tables are expensive as well. Why not add a portable massage chair to your office equipment? There are several good reasons for you to consider one.

Inside Your Office

Most people look forward to lying on their massage therapist’s table for a relaxing massage, but some people may feel too vulnerable to lie down while you work on them. Clients who have been sexually abused or raped, for instance, may be too hyper vigilant to lie down and relax. These clients might, at least initially, feel more comfortable sitting fully clothed on a portable massage chair while you work on their shoulders, neck, hands, and feet.

A portable massage chair can also be used for clients who cannot climb onto the table or lie down comfortably. A client with lung disease, for instance, might become too short of breath lying on his or her back or stomach. A very obese client might have difficulty climbing onto the table and lying flat could be uncomfortable.

Keeping a portable massage chair in your office lets your clients know that you are sensitive to their differing needs.

Outside Your Office

Enterprising massage therapists don’t wait for their clients to come to them. Sometimes they go to their clients. You might land a gig going to a business and giving back, neck, and shoulder massages to office staff. If you’re giving several quick mini-massages in a row, it is less time consuming to have your clients just sit on a portable massage chair than it is to have them stretch out on a table.

Some massage therapists take their portable massage chairs and station themselves (with the proper permission, of course) in public areas, like the entrance to a busy mall or on a well-traveled walkway. People who are tired and have been on their feet for most of the day will often cheerfully shell out $15-$25 for a quick massage.

One way to draw attention to your practice is to participate in volunteer activities. Bring your portable massage chair to an Alzheimer’s fund-raising walk or a marathon to raise money for underprivileged kids and offer free ten-minute massages. You’ll get your name out in the community and help support a good cause as well.

Whether inside your office or out, a good portable massage chair is a vital piece of equipment for any massage therapist.
